I have spoken with Navy personal before about "LCS" ships. They refer to them as "Little Crappy Ships". It is a huge learning curve the Navy is going thru and they recognize a need for fast craft. Very similar in engineering set up to high speed catamarans since they use waterjets and aluminum. These ships are much lighter than steel and can be dry docked and moved easier.

I remember you saying she was going to get a job with NavSea. Sure am happy for you and her for getting to work on the LCS project.
The LCS project was the last one I was involved with just before retirement. Worked on test certifying the rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and Module integration with the stern retrival system on LCS's 1,2,3 and 4.
The LCS is a fantastic and exciting learning experience for an engineer because all the systems of the ship, boats, aviation support systems, module systems, propulsion, etc are so closely integrated as opposed to the large combatants where everything is compartmentalized and specialized. As Pedlyr said said the LCS's had some initial teething problems because of numerous complicated systems installed all at once at the outset that needed to be worked through. Great learning environment for a new engineer.
What is not shown in the photo is the unique side-launching of these vessels at Marinette Marine. VERY impressive.
                    Give her Congratulations for me.

Nay, she sent me a video of the launch. CRAZY. Marinette was her last internship. She has 4 job offers and I think she will go with one in the N. Virginia area or Virginia Beach. She really liked the "undersea delivery system " testing.
