Installed new Ongaro horn months ago. Just hooked up wires today. Worked on bench but on boat all I get is a click when power first goes on. Took it apart, looks new.

The first thing I would do is run temporary wire straight from your battery to the horn and see if it blows. (Might could use a 10 amp battery charger if more convenient.) If so that would indicate a wiring issue not letting the full voltage/current get to the horn. If it still doesn't work, on some horns there is an adjustment screw to adjust vibration of the sound disk that vibrates back and forth. If the gap isn't right it can do as you describe.C Rhodes

Did you run both positive and negative wires? If not, yes it could be the ground. (Or the adjustment as posted above - but check the ground first.)C Rhodes

Something is wrong on the positive circuit between the terminal on the horn and its source. Bad connection or corrosion. Is there a connector in the harness between the horn and the power source? That's a common place for issues. The fuse panel is another vulnerable place. With electrical issues its always best to trace it while it's happening. Do go and shake a bunch of wires. You see that you have low voltage under a load at the horn. Do the same test with the button pushed at the fuse panel. Do one side of the fuse then the other. Keep checking places until you see where you loose it. Don't probe the wire. Remember, someone has to be holding the button since that's when you loose the voltage.1980 pilot house 351
