Went with the Dart heads, #10221112. This is going to cost more than I thought. Parts are not easy to find with many suppliers 6 months out.

Sooooo, apparently Jegs lied to me. Instead of shipping on Thursday it will be the middle of June. Welcome to the Yo'Bama rerun.

Not just car parts. Called three different suppliers yesterday and risers and manifolds are back ordered.

This shifts the conversation. But all manufacturing is behind schedule compliments of covid.

And the border is big time screwed up because of the idiot in chief. Forget anyone carrying it across boarder.

I should have made an exception in my above comments. You can get anything from china you want. There's plenty of stock on the shelves.

                    Jerry,

Have you considered the Chevy Vortec heads. They are available as 170cc or 185cc intake ports. Both are in stock at Summit Racing. The 185cc version is better than the Dart head #10221112 and has both intake bolt patterns. The base 170cc head will easily support 350-400hp but require the Vortec style intake manifold.

Was at the engine shop yesterday talking to the man that does the heads. He said that they have had a lot of problems with the valve seats in the Chevrolet heads as well as others. They always use ARP or Dart.

That is news to me. Are they referring to both the 170 and 185 versions? Dart and AFR both make great heads. The cost of the Dart heads puts you very close to the AFR 195 heads, is the builder against running aluminum heads? The AFR 195 head is really good.

He actually had a set of Fast Burn heads on his machine. He said they were built in Mex and the seats didn't last. I don't think I'll use the aluminum heads although initally I was going to. Even though the engine is FW cooled it is in a salt water enviroment.

If the AFR's are in your budget, I would run them. All of the new LS based inboards have aluminum heads and blocks, I don't see how it will be a problem with closed cooling.

The original marinized Vortec 5.7's used the HD truck head with Inconel exhaust seats. Did your machinist mention if the exhaust seat was failing?

I am friends with three local machine shop owners that build a lot of marine engines, one is specifically marine and a Mercruiser dealer. I'll call them today and see what their experience has been. I am planning for my next engine (currently at 1350+hrs) and undecided on a cylinder head, so this is important to me.

OK so I've got some heads coming in a week. This is what I ended up with.Comp Cams SK12-416-8, Edelbrock heads, pt # 60975 and a comp cams timing cover, # 208. Lordy, this stuff is expensive. Stimulous money.
Actually got my letter today saying I was getting the check, it was in Spanish.
