S. rebel. Thats what I'm talking about. What has been done to your 383? What boat do you have, exactly. Tower, enclosure, outriggers, etc. I would love to cruise at 25 Knots, or even 25 MPH. Positive proof it can be done. I actually had a long talk at the engine shop today. Take my 383, FI, aluminum heads, custom grind cam, higher compression and I will have what I want. My 351 is running perfectly so I won't make the switch til winter, but its going to happen.
What a difference the 383 stroker makes. We have the original 351 making 240hp in our 26 open. You are cruising at 25 knots we struggle to get that at WOT. While the old engine seems to run well it doesn’t seem to have the extra get up and go. When the time comes it will be a change not a rebuild considering it is a 30 year old RWC engine.
My 26 with a 383 stroker with a full load of fuel
and 2 people tips out around 30knots. It’s not the correct wheel as I’m not getting close to wot but with the correct wheel i should be in the mid to up 30s knots. I’m currently playing with wheels and should have another one next week that is hopefully about perfect . The current wheel is 16x16 with a heavy cup and cruise at 3400 is 25knots
I'm waiting on bated breath too! I'm always looking for the "best" solution. As for which option, I thinking the diesel because when you get bigger the diesel is smaller per HP. Think off shore racers, Turbo charged diesels turning out-drives.
Typical 351 in there now, runs great. Ed, I hear ya on the gear and prop clearance stuff. I know George put some 454s in the 26'ers and I have that info. Maybe Nay could help here?
I would look at the prop and gear. With a power increase you might have to change a few things. Now you get into prop clearance, shaft size, and reduction ratios as well.
It definitely will be a good one.
I'm going with the 383 stroker!
And with a nice set of heads it should make some good torque.
Trickflow makes a nice head.
I love my 26 but, I'm really getting tired of being the last one there. I need opinions. Tuner, this is your specialty. I have a few options. All will need work and I don't mind spending the money to get what I want, which is a fast 26' Shamrock. Don't tell me it can't be done. There is a boat just like mine in Swansboro, that passes me like I'm paint on a fence. He has for years. I don't know who he is. He never answers me on the radio or even waves as he blasts by. So, this is what I have. A 454 FI, a 383, a 6bta-m, a few 351s. Don't really want the diesel. My engine guy always says, "theres no replacement for displacement" but can I get the same power with less weight and a straight drop in, from the 383 with new heads and FI ?
