May be the motherboard is gone jerry.
the cost of that is probably more than the unit is worth.

I see them go forsale for around $500. They’re still pretty highly regarded. See the occasional parts unit come up for around $100.

You may also want to post on the furuno USA forum. They have some really sharp guys over there that will help diagnose the issue and figure out whst parts you’d need to repair If you want to go that route. Furunos are serviceable units.

It could be a cracked solder connection on the main board.

I just bought this unit from some one on the Downeast Boat Forum. I have one on my 26. Bought it when they first came out. Love it . thought this would be good on the 31. Don't want to fix, want my money back if it isn't something simple.

Just let him know and he is sending my money back. Good guy! Buying stuff online is always a crap shoot but when they are a member of a small forum I feel pretty safe.

May have been a completely unintended screw up. The handling during shipping could easily have messed up an internal connection, resulting in it being DOA. I have experienced some nightmare shipping issues and heard of many, many more. Glad the seller is making it right.

Jerry, I believe that unit has an internal fuse. Is there a possibility that it’s as simple as a bad fuse?

Glad to hear he’s making good on it. I have a bunch of stuff I’ve been buying off the forums to outfit a boat. Now I’m hoping it all powers up. I never bench tested anything.

I took the back off. If it has an internal fuse, I didn't see it.

Jerry, I may be mistaken, when I saw your question I did a quick internet search for The Furuno FCV 585 and found the below post from tech support.

                        Tech Support Specialist: LKT

                        LKT :

Yes there is a fuse in the Furuno FCV 585 it uses Type: FGBO-A 125V 2A, CodeNo.: 000-155-849-10

this morning I looked up the owner manual

On page vii under spare parts I see

                        “Spare Parts (SP02-05001)
                        Fuse (2 pcs., FGBO-A 125V 2A, 000-155-849-10)“

On page 23 it mentions replacing the fuses (PLURAL) but reading it it appears to me to be talking about a single in line fuse in the power cable.

                        “3.4 Replacing the Fuse
The fuses (Type: FGBO-A 125V 2A, Code No.: 000-155-849-10) in the power cable pro- tect the system from reverse polarity of the power supply and equipment fault. If a fuse blows, find the cause before replacing it. Using the wrong fuse will damage the unit and void the warranty.“

In case you don’t already have it below is a link to the full manual.

                        https://www.furunousa.com/-/media/si...al_g__1711.pdf

Sorry if I sent you on a wild goose chase. The first search lead me to believe there was an internal fuse, this mornings reading left me more confused when they use fuses in the plural form.

                        Regards,
                        Mark
