  • Sprayrails

I have read all the spray rail articles, smartrail information. I am looking for installed pictures on a 26 mack with measurements fron the chine. I know holty added flanges to the pulpitvas well. What works, what doesnt? Are taco units better tgeough bolted?

Thanks, looking to change my submarine to a wet battleship. Love the boat!

We did not through bolt ours. Chris touched up the front end of one of them after it was damaged by front trailer roller (lesson learned, set them 6"+ from point of bow) but overall no problems after 3 seasons of use.

Mitten, There is a picture of the 'spray wings' I made for my Mack on the picture page here. They are made with 1/2" Starboard and attach to my teak pulpit and hull. They could be fabricated to fit a glass pulpit as well. Because of the stub nose hull these 260 rigs have spray comes straight up at the bow. The spray wings helped deflect this.

Took these picture shortly after I added the Smart Rail system. I'll need to either take measurements or dig throng my information to see how far above the chime. I think we installed them 13" above the chime (bottom).

Mine are screwed to the hull at the chine, effectively increasing the chine area with a slight turn down at the outer inch. I don't have anything to compare it too other than other boats that splash water on the bow when heading into short period wind swell. I found that keeping the front windows closed helps, with them open, the airflow seems to funnel the spray into the cabin.

Previous owner says so. New to me boat, during a light restoration and will splash in a few weeks.

They don't stop all the spray on these pug nose rigs but definitely a worthwhile investment and project. I installed them 10" above the waterline on my 99' Mack and had good results. I split the cost of two nine ft sections with Billy No Tacks. We then cut them in half giving us each two 54" pieces which worked great. I installed them in 2005. My sister owns the Mack now and they are holding up fine.

                  regards Holty

Mine are about 12” above the chime and they make a worthwhile difference! But on certain days/conditions, it’s still going to be a wet ride!
