  • Miscellaneous hardware

Working on some cosmetic issues this spring and it has given rise to a few questions about miscellaneous hardware on the boat. On both sides of the boat there are rusty bolts on the gunnels which are 4 inches on center. This is the same spacing as the 10 inch cleats. I can’t help thinking a previous owner moved the spring line cleats forward. The rusted bolts are near the back end of the gutter on top of the gunnel approximately 10 feet from the stern. The spring line cleats are approximately 13 feet from the stern. Does anyone know where the cleats would be installed from the factory?

second question does anyone know what this plastic piece would have been for? There is one on the gunnel on each side of the boat.

On my 26 HT, the cleats are centered 10' from the stern, so that may be their original factory location on your 26 Open too.

I can't tell from only one pic, but iffen the plastique pieces are made to rotate, could they be antenna mounts?

If that plastic piece has a wire or tube coming out of it, it most likely is a remote "float switch"
If it doesn't say SHAMROCK, it doesn't say much

The plastic piece doesn’t rotate and has no wires or tubes going to it. Will remove them and install extra rod holders in their place. Trying to decide if I should relocate the spring line cleats to where the old rusty bolts are or leave them where they are. Either way I will clean up the rust stains and repair the holes or cap them with new stainless hardware.
