  • So I took the boat out last Thursday, final shakedown cruise before the planned fishing trip Saturday (which we ended up not going because of the wind). Cruised up the Miles river and all was going well. Turned around to head back to the slip and before I got to the bridge, the engine just shut down. Was cruising right along at 2800 or so and the engine side just died, no power at all. Finally thought to check the fuse and it was blown. Installed another and it turned the key and that fuse blew instantly. Not wanting to blow my last fuse, I sat back and started thinking and remembered that I had another 20A circuit breaker in the cabin as I was planning on replacing the switch panel fuses with breakers. Installed that and it blew. Well after tracing wires and unplugging and testing until the breaker did not blow, I figured out that somewhere between the temp sender alarm wire and the alarm light (and buzzer that was disconnected before I bought the boat) there is a short. Disconnected that alarm wire and was able to get back without issue!

    • I had an afternoon available yesterday so I ran to canvas shop and picked up some new helm seat cushions I'd had them make. I had them do extra thick seat cushion, high density foam. I really liked the green piping I had done on my new engine box cushion so had them do it for the seats also. Snapped a pic to send to radioman when I got them and thought I'd go ahead and post them. Sure made me realize how dirty the seat plastic is! LOL.

    • Cushions look great. Try soaking the plastic with Oxiclean.

      • Those cushions are nice! I really need at least a new bottom for my helm seat as well. I have found originals a couple different places, but I never thought of just having a local shop make a set.
